I am making a new pair of cool, kick-ass slippers for Scot. I got the pattern from Cocoknits....her website will be up soon at cocoknits.com! They're supposed to be knit in Malabrigio, but I decided to knit my first pair in something a little less spendy to see how they work out and so I don't use the Malabrigio on mistakes. I ended up using the Vanna's Choice acrylic I had in my stash. So soft and knit up surprisingly springy and warm...I am falling in love with this yarn!

I knit both of the soles first, then picked up the stitches on one sole and knit that upper. As I was knitting the sides, Scot claimed that they looked like "foot canoes," so that is what they're now called around my house...although someone a little less silly might call them Loafer slippers :P

On to the pictures!

First, you knit a sole like this. I did both the soles before I tried making the uppers :) They're quick and easy to knit.
One foot canoe in all its glory :P I didn't plan on the two yarns to pool that way and would have rather they didn't, but it doesn't look bad so *shrug*
Where the foot canoe actually looks the cool, kick-ass loafer slipper that it is supposed to be :P You can see all the crazy ends inside I still have to weave in. *sigh* I hate weaving in ends, lol...but don't we all? You can also see the holes and crazy twisties next to the ridge on the right. I obviously screwed up somehow, but I was so careful in following the pattern! Ah well, I still love them, even if they're flawed :P
Foot canoe in action...being worn by my size 11 feet. Scot's feet are size 6...but they fit him as well. Amazing, that stretchy yarn!
The money shot! I love how the cast-off looks and the little loafer curved bit on the top, even if mine is (for some unknown reason) lopsided.... Yay!
Now on to knitting foot canoe #2 :)

Snack LOVE

I used to eat cans upon cans of this stuff when they sold it Trader Joe's. Years ago, they stopped selling it and I foolishly assumed the company had stopped making it.

For some totally unknown reason, I googled Pop Nots last week and *gasp*! They're still being made!

I ordered four cans and am in pop not heaven *swoon*

Love cookie

I finished the fortune cookie!

Which is a good thing, since my 2nd anniversary is this weekend :D

I forgot to take a picture of the finished round before felting, but here it is post-felt, with my poor attempts at blocking the felted item into a vaguely circular shape :) I was being angry and anal about it, until I realized it was going to be folded up and no one would ever know it wasn't perfectly circular :) I used Wool of the Andes in Tan. What a fun, sproingy yarn to knit with!

Here it is all happy and fortune-cookie shaped! Yay! I just need to print out the secret fortune for my sweetie and put it inside, then I'm going to wrap it up in a chinese food box and include some real fortune cookies and a gift card for Panda Express, one of her favorite chinese food places :)

Secret presents are fun :P

Fibery update

Yes, I'm still working on the shawl for my mother.

But in the meantime, I whipped this scarf out using a skein and a tad more of my Arucania Nature Cotton yarn :) My sweetie's house is cold and my neck needed something warm to cuddle with, so...voila! Quick, boring garter scarf.

Amazingly, this is the FIRST scarf I've ever knit. I know, crazy, huh? I just started knitting regular stuff, instead of doing the traditional knit a gagillion scarves first.  *shrug*

I threw some YOs at each end so it wasn't TOTALLY boring. It's not blocked or anything, so they look a bit messy, but they're there. I can also use them as button holes and wrap it up and clasp it with a cufflink as a tighter scarf if I so chose.

Then, I CO for a fortune cookie today. You heard me right, a fortune cookie :D

It's an anniversary gift for my sweetie :) It will be knit (go, short rows, go!) and then felted and I will put something sweet and smarmy inside on a piace of white ribbon :) (Our 2 year anniversary is in a few weeks!!!)

The pattern is here: http://indigomuse.blogspot.com/2006/01/felted-fortune-cookies_30.html

They're SUPER easy and quick...I did those 4 wedges in the picture in about 10 minutes...and it supposeldy takes 14-15 wedges to make a circle. Then, sew up, felt and fold. Voila! A fortune cookie :)

I need more time to knit.

Coolness

Who just bought the COOLEST bicycle basket on the planet?

Why, I did :D

I have been looking at baskets for weeks now. White baskets or wicker seemed to be the best look for my bike...however, they weren't just very *me*. But then, black or metal looked too modern for my cute little orange wonder. So, nothing bought yet.

Then, whilst googling...what do I see but a bike basket at SF MOMA. I click the link and FALL IN LOVE!

Oh. My. Gosh. I will be THE shit with this basket on my fabulous orange bike.

Oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh.

The SHIT, I tell you :D :D :D

Even cooler? The pattern is off an old lace tablecloth that the artist's grandma has when she was growing up :D

Wheeeeeeee!

I'm staying at Scot's house the next several days, so I brought my bike along so we can go on rides. Rather than leave it on my bike rack out in the parking lot, I brought it into my office for the day. Sitting here, looking at it while I was bored and frustrated...I planned a plan :)

For lunch, I took a bike ride around the business park :D :D

It's a stunningly beautiful day today, very windy but sunny but not too warm. The ocean air was blowing through my hair, my legs were pumped full of blood and I was off to explore and just let my mind...forget...for awhile.

I felt like I was flying, free, out in the world of happiness on my fabulous orange bike :D :D

When my poor, out of shape legs decided to give up, I came back to the office, but I wanted to prolong it for as long as possible, so I rode up and down each parking aisle towards my office....

I feel happy and excited and energized and bouncy and I can't seem to wipe the smile off my face :)

This may become a more regular thing :D

Fraggle's got a brand new bag ;)

I saw this large orange many-pocketed bag at Long's Drugs over a week ago and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind. I finally went over there last night and bought the darned thing!

It's amazing!

It's orange and baby blue (predominantly orange) and it has short-ish handles that just fit over your shoulder. And it's HUGE. And it has 10...count 'em...TEN....pockets. 6 on the outside and 4 on the inside, besides the large main compartment :D

It holds ALL my knitting projects, my book, my patterns, my lotion, my medicines, all my pending bills and misc. paperwork, candy, dental picks, playing cards, nail file, bottle of water and I still have 2 unused pockets and most of the huge interior space open and waiting.

I think I want to marry this bag :D

(insert crappy camera phone picture disclaimer here)

To give you a sense of scope, that little white bit on the inside right is the top of a water bottle :)

Gently borrowed from Crack :D

Here's my mug shot from the website Senor Crack found :D http://flashface.ctapt.de/

They just didn't have my hair! *pout* and I think I got the nose wrong...and the eyes...and, ah hell. Maybe it doesn't look like me at all, but it was fun to make :D

Amazing artist

I discovered a new artist this weekend that just moves me in ways I have never experienced before. I am just...in awe...of his work.

His name is Andy Goldsworthy and he makes art from nature in nature. Technically, his art is sculpture, I guess you'd say...but it's not. The actual art of it is live, in the presence of the piece, or how nature effects the piece he makes.

I saw an AMAZING documentary about him on the Sundance channel over the weekend, called "Rivers and Tides." I HIGHLY recommend the DVD to anyone who can find it. Just...breathtaking. Amazing work. Stunning.

Dream on....

I made an internet-wide wishlist today...no simple Amazon for me, oh no!

There's this site I've been playing with for awhile called Wist (short for Wish List) that calls itself "Social shopping." Basically, you can add ANYTHING on ANY webpage to your list.... It can be used like a favorites list, a wish list, a shopping list, anything :)

Mine is my wish list, since so little of what I want is on Amazon these days...can we say yarn?!

My Wish List Is Here :D

Yay for selfish promoting of goods! :P

hurting my heart

There are babies in need all the time. Babies die while being born and have all sorts of bad things happen to them in utero. I know this; a sister of mine died mid-birth, so I really know this. It happens all the time.

Why, then, does reading the story of one family...one baby...people I don't even know, never heard of before this terrible sadness happened...hurt my heart so much?

I pretty much never donate money...I'm a stingy biyatch...but oh gosh, reading about this mother's hopes for her unborn baby...planning for a vaginal birth after three cesarians...and totally accidentally...something went wrong in utero and the baby was born with all kinds of brain damage. I know babies are also resilient and it's possible that this little baby girl will grow up perfectly fine. But I donated everything I could to this family I've never heard of before. It just makes me cry, reading the blog, hearing about the baby girl and how she's improving, but they still don't know anything...reading the mother's thoughts...how she blames herself...anyone would...it's a natural instinct....

I dunno. It just kills me.

Fraggles in Disneyland!

Noah and I got back from a 4-day adventure in Disneyland last night!

I'm so exhausted, lol.

We had a blast, really and truly, despite some set-backs. The first night, our hotel had a fire alarm and several thousand people were evacuated into the parking lots. At 4:00 AM :| The second day, my mother and her husband both hurt their backs and had to go back to the hotel early. That night, the Fireworks were cancelled because of high winds and the next morning my mother broke her foot. Walking into a wall, lol.

Desipe all that, Noah went on every ride proposed to him (even the Matterhorn and Big Thunder Railroad!) and just had a blast! He finally admitted defeat on the afternoon of the third day, after not much sleep and long days running and playing. He turned to me mid-line for the White Water Rafting ride in Disney's California and said, "Mommy, my feet hurt bad. I think I need to go lay down and rest now." Poor little guy :)

You can see all my pictures at this link http://www.noodlegirl.com/FragglesinDisneyland2007/
but I've also included a few of my favorites in this post :D

Oy vey.

So, as most of you know, I'm the office manager for my company.  THis means I do anything and everything.  I'm the only administrative person in the office.  I do reception, mail room, executive assistant, admin, printer/fax maintenance and repair, purchasing, and anything and everything facilities related.

We've been having a LOT LOT LOT of problems with our security system since we moved into our new building back in August 2006.  My boss has been kicking my ass because I can't get them to fix it correctly.  Well, last night, I got my turn at being royally pissed.

I got a call around 11:00 PM that the alarm was going off and they'd sent the police.  Now, we get charged every time the police go out, so I told them to call the police off.  I put clothes on.  I woke up my blissfully slumbering 5 year old and carried him out to the car.  I drove to work.  En route, the freeway just.....stopped.  I mean, total and utter dead standstill for over 10 minutes.  I finally called 511 (traffic information line) and found out there was a major injury accident 2 exits up and they'd blocked all lanes.

Great.

So, I get off at the next exit and wind my way through the streets and over a bridge to get to work.  Go in, reset the damn alarm.  Turn around and go home.  Carry the child back into the house and tuck him back into bed.  *boing!*  I'm wide awake, of course.  So, I stayed up looking at knitting patterns online until 2AM.

*yawn*

I hate my job sometimes.

YAY!!!! FRAGGLES!!!!

You scored as Mokey Fraggle. You are creative, thoughtful, graceful, poetic, dreamy, artistic, and helpful. You're also not very closely in touch with reality, but people can't help but to love you in spite of that. When you're not painting, writing, or helping someone, you like to take long walks to get in touch with the Fraggle caves that are your environment. If you were human, you'd be an inoffensive hippie, but since you're a Fraggle, you're just Mokey.

My link of the day to share :)

Okay, so I don't usually share links (cause lord knows I have about 5 thousand of them), but a few weeks ago, I somehow came across this little website...maybe someone on LiveJournal posted about it? I can't remember. Anyway, It just brightens my day every day, lol.

http://www.woot.com/

It's a site called Woot! and they sell something. One thing. A different thing each day for 24 hours. At a ridiculously low price. That in and of itself is pretty cool enough, but. BUT! They write these really funny little stories about the products each day that usually make me laugh out loud or at least smile.

I start each day checking Woot! at work :)

Today's Woot was the first one I ever bought!!! It's gonna be a birthday present for Kelt :D Mybutch knows his way around some meat...now he can do his thing without having to constantly get up and check the thermometer :P

I'm all for supporitng laziness, if it means more cuddle time for me :D
